WELCOME TO THE ONLINE GALLERY OF

JUDY NAKARI, WATERCOLOR ARTIST

I HAVE A PASSION FOR ART. I'VE STUDIED WITH MANY OF THE BEST TEACHERS AND PAINTERS, SOMETIMES IN EXOTIC LOCALES AROUND THE WORLD - ABSORBING, ADMIRING, PAINTING, ALL THE WHILE DEVELOPING MY STYLE. MY REAL TEACHER, HOWEVER, HAS BEEN THE PROCESS OF CREATING ART. I LOOK FOR DESIGN AND COLOR, AND TRY TO ACHIEVE AN ESSENTIAL RADIANCE, FROM NATURE AND FROM THE HUMAN FIGURE, AND TO ALLOW THE DIVINE CREATIVE PROCESS TO TAKE OVER. I TRY DAILY TO BE AN ARTIST. . . AND I WELCOME THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE MY ART WITH YOU.

I set up on the sidewalk and painted this "en plein air" in Monterossa, one of the Cinque Terre towns of Italy. I like the feeling of movement here, and of capturing a moment in time. This painting is one of two of my watercolors which were chosen for the 2008 Tucson Plein Air Painters show, in November and December at the Art Center in Tubac, Arizona.

"Desert Studies #4; Century Plant" was awarded the BEST IN SHOW award in the 2008 Tucson Plein Air Painters show, by juror Carol St. John. It was painted at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, on a beautiful sunny afternoon last January.

I'm fascinated with the quality of light in the Sonoran Desert landscape, while the light filtered through the more humid atmosphere of Europe makes timeless the buildings and landscapes there. I want my viewers to experience again the joy of these special places and times.

Plein Air (on location) painting is a wonderful experience and nothing beats it for getting the "feeling" of a place or a moment into the painting. I teach plein air watercolor painting at the Art Institute of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum annually.

To register, go online to www.desertmuseum.org/arts, or telephone 520-883-3024. Plans are also under way for a multi-day workshop to be held in Bisbee, Arizona during 2009. You may contact me, or Verano Gallery for information as we finalize our plans.

  • For many years my passion for painting has been limited to watercolor, and those of your who are regular visitors to my website may be surprised to learn that I am now also painting with oils. Here is a glimpse of some of my recent oil paintings.
