About the Artist

I hold active and signature membership in three juried organizations, the Colorado Watercolor Society (CWS), the Taos National Society of Watercolorists (TNSW), and the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild (SAWG).

I have received many awards in numerous National and State-wide juried shows, have received national media coverage for my art, and even had a piece prominently displayed on a CBS sitcom. Several of my floral paintings have been released in a line of greeting cards and giclee prints for Peconic Bay Originals, and my paintings hang in collections worldwide.

I use the finest watercolor papers, usually 140 lb. cold-press d'Arches, a 100% rag paper from France. I use other fine w/c papers too, including Strathmore bristol board #400, and when I work on Bristol board I will add a little gouache to the paints, giving me a little more control and giving the painting a bit of an opaque look. Both of these techniques are fun and challenging for me, and I enjoy each equally.

I am available to your group as a workshop instructor (have brush, will travel). My workshops can be structured to the needs of your group and to any level of painters. I also lead an annual painting trip to Selva, a private estate in the Tuscany hills of Italy. Let me know if you would like to be informed of upcoming classes or workshops.

My work is an exploration of the way light and shadow work together to describe form. Composition and Design are very important elements in my paintings. While the colors can be arbitrary, the values must be strong. I'm fascinated with the quality of light in the Sonoran Desert landscape, while the light filtered through the more humid atmosphere of Europe makes timeless the buildings and landscapes there. I want my viewers to experience again the joy of these special places and times.

"Blue Mood" and "Coming Home" are from a series called "Ordinary People" on which I am currently working. This series highlights everyday people involved in simple, everyday activities, once again evoking memories of days gone, or imaginings of what might yet be.
