...I look for design and color, and try to achieve an essential radiance, from nature and from the human figure, and to allow the divine creative process to take over. "Accidents" in the creative process are treated as gifts and possibilities. I try daily to be an artist. . . and I welcome this opportunity to share my art with you..

Desert Spring

This is another painting of the awesome spring blooms which surround us during the month of March. I call it Desert Spring, and it depicts the flowering of the common prickly pear cactus.

Framed size is 30" x 38".

Feel the Music

A mood conveyed, she seems to be lost in the joy of her music making. This was painted from the model and as I looked at it later, I began to envision the keyboard, and also added one of her hands to make it believable. An award winner from juror Timothy Clark at the 2007 SAWG annual show.

Watercolor, 20"x27" framed

Dance of the Tourists

A rainy day in Florence, Italy. This was painted on a full sheet of a watercolor paper that I couldn't identify, and which reacted to the paint in some unusual ways, but it still manages to convey the spirit of the day. Chosen by juror Katherine Change Liu for the prestigious Western Federation of Watercolor 2008 show in Tubac, Arizona

Watercolor, 30" x 38" framed

Lavenderia

A slice of everyday life in Tuscany. Clothes dryers are rare, and it seems that even the commercial laundry service must hang the clothes out to dry. The old buildings hint of all the years and all the lives that have passed by.

Oil on Canvas, 42" x 30" framed

Arch of Intrigue

A stroll through the medieval town of San Gimingiano, known for its many towers, is made even more intriguing by its ancient arches.

Oil on Canvas, 30" x 22" framed

Painting the figure in watercolor is a great challenge, and a great satisfaction. I like to compose figures in an "unposed" informal style, which complements the spontaneity of the meduim. I will work with you to create the portrait you've always wanted. The following are examples of my figure paintings, many of them commissioned portraits.
